Great Inland Way

The Great Inland Way takes you exploring for over 2200 kilometres. Travelling north from Dubbo/ Gilgandra in the central west of New South Wales with its colonial heritage and mountain ranges, passed Coonamble and across the wide plains to Walgett and the colourful Lightning Ridge opal fields.  Cross the border into Queensland and retrace the steps of the early pioneers as you roam along through places such as Hebel, Dirranbandi, St. George, Surat, Roma, Injune, Rolleston and Springsure taking time to enjoy the vineyards, the history and the scenic diversity of the natural landscapes and national parks.

See for yourself the modern day pioneers of the agricultural and energy industries near Emerald and Capella. Dig for sapphires at Rubyvale and gold around Clermont. Take another break at Belyando Crossing then delve into the heritage of Charters Towers. Greenvale, Mt Garnet, Innot Hot Springs, Walkamin, Mt Molloy, Mt Carbine, Palmer River and Lakeland are in Savannah Country, which borders the wet tropics areas that include Ravenshoe, Atherton, Tolga, Kuranda and Cairns. Don’t miss the diverse agriculture around Mareeba or the story of the Endeavour Crew’s triumph at Cooktown. Take your time, it’s a fascinating journey of discovery.

Your companion as you travel along is Ernie Emu. Ernie features in the logo with his arms wide open welcoming you along The Great Inland Way. Look out for him and his family in your travels along the Way.
